The Manager - Scribblings of a kid

I stumbled upon a story I had written on a piece of paper on a boring summer afternoon. Most of my childhood writings were lost, so this was like finding a treasure. I laugh at the naivety of the writing - but not ashamed of it. Putting it up verbatim. It is based on a football manager who helps the Indian soccer team.

The Kingdom - Scribblings during childhood

I stumbled upon a story I had written on a piece of paper on a boring summer afternoon. Most of my childhood writings were lost, so this was like finding a treasure. I laugh at the naivety of the writing - but not ashamed of it. Putting it up verbatim. First, the synopsis :
.
Once, like often there was a kingdom and a princess who was, you guessed it right ‘captured by rival kingdom’ – who possessed modern warfare. One day an unknown warrior braves his life and rescues her and takes her back. He goes by the name ‘Azad (freedom)’. He is in actuality an agent of the rival kingdom and the escape attempt was just a charade. Once inside the kingdom, he is touched by the people’s simplicity and culture. They surrender to the lord, have loyal attitude. The kingdom has its own spies in the rival kingdom and hence discovers Azad’s true identity, The commander in chief tries to claim pride by trying to take down the warrior single handedly but gets slayed. The rival military attacks kingdom. The warrior proves his change of heart by blurting out their strategy and acts as double agent. The kingdom has strong protection due to a wall around it. But their ancient temple is outside the walls. The king falls in a quandary. But the warrior gives a terrific speech that sacrifice is characteristic feature of warrior and that fighting within the compound would mean destruction of their history and the world would look upon them as cowards. The kingdom is saved. Predictably, the warrior marries the queen and they have a son- ‘Balidaan’ (sacrifice). He becomes friend with the son of the slain commander in chief, who secretly desires to kill him. But on seeing the nobility of the warrior and realizing that he had slain his father as a self defence, he is thankful that his father fell down from the hands of a great warrior. Both grow up. Many years later, again the kingdom is under threat – from a larger force of coalition. Everyone realizes that only a miracle can save them. The council decides that they would fight back. But Balidaan has other ideas. He gives a speech about how people’s lives is what matters and where culture is and not on stones and monuments. He says that a warrior isn’t decided by number of people he kills but by the number f people saves. Honour and glory do not necessarily come  by killing. The primary objective must be to save the people. The walls have the ancestors buried in them and leaving it on the mercy of enemy would mean its destruction. He realizes this and yet decides to take the contentious decision of leading his people away from the walls, eventhough his own parents are buried there. They use the compound as a bait and lure the enemy in and then use it’s stones as weapons to attack the enemy. He also stops the daily services of gods in temples to conserve milk and other essentials. He uses the weapons of god as he says that they are more in need of them and that surely god is powerful enough to make do without them. One day he learns that the enemy has stored most of its weapons in the sacred temple lying outside the walls – believing that they would never attack it. He hatches a plan and discreetly destroys the sacred temple along with the weapons in it. The temple which his parents dies saving. He knows this deep in his heart, yet he does so for the larger good. Furious, the enemy does a full frontal attack. He had predicted the hysteria and prepared secret tunnel leading out. They use these and surround the enemy, creating disarray and confusion. They have also been in contact with surrounding tribal, nomads for help and they get the help. The enemy is attacked on all fonts and decides to retreat away after falling for internal squabbles. The warrior dies during the battle. He reunites with his parents. His father’s last wishes came true – he fell as a martyr, but not as expected by him.

Attaching below the story I wrote when I was in 9th grade
